Cutting pollution won't cause global warming spike, study says

"This paper at first glance seems to ignore the big question of what is the current total impact of aerosols.

The starting point is this question: how much cooling are the aerosols providing, and how much of that will be lost at zero emissions, compared to the reduced forcing from greenhouse gases?

Now because there is no direct measurement of aerosols, their forcing is assumed in climate models, based in part of assumptions about how much heat the oceans are taking down into the deep ocean. If oceans are taking down more heat, then the aerosols forcing is likely lower.  If oceans are taking down less heat, then that implies that the aerosol forcing is higher."
